Petersons
Wines in Australia began with Ian Peterson, in 1871. He bought
the Glenesk dairy farm at Mount View in 1964 with the intention
of raising cattle for beef.
The first
vineyards were Semillon
to supply the McWilliam's winery. By 1980 there were more than
30 acres of vines planted, which included Semillon,
Chardonnay,
Shiraz,
Cabernet
Sauvignon and Pinot
Noir grape
varieties.
Petersons Wines started producing their own wines in 1981, starting
with Shiraz
and Chardonnay.
They now have vineyards in Vineyards in the Hunter Valley, Mudgee
and Armidale in the New England Region in NSW.
